David Forster Woods

Born 24 Feb 1909 in St. Louis MO, to Harry and Mary (O’Brien) Woods. Died 28 Jun 1982 in Baltimore, MD.

Enlisted 27 Jul 1944 in the U.S. Army for the duration of the war, plus 6-months. Discharged 21 Jan 1946.

Chief Publicist for the Pimlico Race Course, ca. 1930s-1960s, becoming an instrumental force in raising the national profile of the Baltimore Thoroughbred Track and the Preakness Stakes.

Namesake of the David F. Woods Memorial Award for excellence in journalism established by the Maryland Jockey Club for the best Preakness story from the previous year.
