Capturing History, Preserving Valor

Reflections of the Pacific is a comprehensive yet condensed account of the Asian-Pacific War in World War II. The history in this volume covers the beginning of the War in China in 1931 until The Battle of Guadalcanal in 1943. It includes unpublished interviews I’ve done as well as other’s accounts. The War in China, India, Burma and Indonesia is rarely covered, yet the vast majority of the War by far was in Asia. The Allies constituted the most culturally diverse war coalition in history, the drama of the Pacific has been overlooked. The story of the Pearl Harbor Attack is long and complex, beginning in the 1920s with the debate continuing until the 2000s and the controversy is still continuing to this day. Our book includes the last of the original Navajo Code Talkers, Japanese POW and last WWI Veteran Frank Buckles, support Airmen of the Doolittle Raid and much more.

The Soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war…

Gen. Douglas MacArthur

My War in the Pacific is an overview of WWII in the Pacific and Asia with emphasis on the last years of the war. The Allies had the advantage; the occupied islands of the Pacific were liberated, China, Indonesia, Philippines and other countries continued to resist. Yet the Army and Navy of Imperial Japan continue to fight to the death. The Allies did not seek to take over Japan, but required it to demilitarize. Oral histories are included; Japanese as well as American. We are honored to provide a Woody Williams interview on his Medal of Honor for his service in Iwo Jima and his life. We include coverage of the atomic bombings, the Japanese army’s effort to stop the Emperor’s surrender. A survey of WWII sites you can visit today in Japan and Asia will interest readers. 600 pages.

Through his writings, Mark Zangara has captured the very deep and dark soul of the conflict that tore the world apart during the mid-20th century, a conflict that upset the very essence of the nature of man, one that turned the world upside down and exposed the evil that lurks just below the surface of our very fabric of existence. The Northern Chesapeake Heritage Foundation highly recommends both of Mark’s texts. For the novice history buff, well-versed historian, or the descendant of a WWII veteran who never had the opportunity to speak to their father, grandfather, or other relatives about their experiences in the Pacific Theater or on the home front during this hellish period of a world turned upside down.
