Pvt. Zadok Martin Shanaman

Contracted “Spanish Fever” (Typhoid) while in camp in Tampa, FL and died at home in Baltimore on 25 Jul 1901.

Zadok Martin Shanaman was born to John and Margaret (Surgis) Shanaman in Baltimore City, MD in May of 1865. Zadok’s father John was a veteran of the Mexican-American War, and his namesake, Uncle Zadok Sturgis, a veteran of the Civil War. Zadok left a widow, the former Miss Amelia Kennard Alexander, and a daughter named Margaret who was but a month old.

Marker procured in May 2020.
