PFC Joseph Richard Winters

Operation “Husky” Allied invasion of Sicily, July 1943. Transferred to the 13th Airborne Division then held in reserve.

Joseph Richard Winters was born in rural Allegheny County, MD on 20 Feb 1918 to James William, a blacksmith in the coal mines, and Theresa Helena (Trapp) Winters. Joseph passed away on the 17 of May 2002 at the age of 84, he was laid to rest in Saint Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Midland, MD.

In August of 2023, Joseph’s niece Patty (Wilt) Forster engaged me to assist in her effort obtain a marker for her Uncle Joseph who is buried alongside her father, Roberts Barnard Wilt. We were able to procure a marker for Joseph and replace her father’s broken upright marble marker with bronze plaque markers from the Veterans Administration.
